Homeschool

Well we have started our first few days of adventure in this brave new world of homeschooling and we are all learning a lot.

Leah loves the computer curriculum we bought and has worked about 2 weeks ahead within the first few days. (That's Leah for you.) She is finding time to do some extra reading which she is really enjoying. I am keeping a list of books read by both kids so we can keep track of the reading they are doing. For Leah in particular it should be quite impressive to see what and how much she has read when we return her to public school or apply to college. We are also trying to add in some community service projects which a lot of schools are requiring these days.

A "funny" before I get to how Jordan is doing. I had the kids do a fill in the name of the state to match the capital worksheet. Jordan of course buzzed through the whole thing (as he figured out quickly that they were all in alphabetical order according to state). Leah on the other hand had to go up and look up on Jordan's map to figure out the answers :) It's good for sissy to see that brother has some cool skills too!

Jordan: We have figured out pretty quickly that the computer curriculum we bought is not going to work out for him so I am going to box it all up and see if I can't sell it. (This happens on ebay all the time.) I checked with the homeschool liaison for our school district and she told me that there are a limited supply of textbooks we can check out from the district. They also keep online a list of standards/benchmarks for what they are covering in school and via the library, online resources, or some books bought through the local teacher supply stores, I think we are covered. With Jordan, creativity will be the key, for instance we found out that math problems are best worked out on the white board and then filled in on a worksheet. I think Jordan likes the visual of a worksheet just because he can see.....ahh here is when I am done with that.
