Yet another week has come and gone. Nothing much has happened. Jordan has been feeling each new weather front to come through. Friday's front deposited me with a nice "little" migraine the effects of which I am still dealing with.
Jordan and I have been working through the minefield of word problems. We spent two weeks reviewing before he took this last math test but he seems to be doing better with the concepts. I have introduced him to some poem books, mostly about animals or sports, but he seems to like them and it gives us an opprotunity to re-inforce the idea of reading each word and practicing the "rhythm" of the written word.
Speaking of Jordan....we had to get him new glasses this week. I had noticed him looking out of the corners of his glasses and leaning into his book. The looking out of the corner of the glasses I thought maybe might be an autism issue called stemming (short for a self-stimulating behavior) but I wasn't sure. I also noticed he was mis-reading more words so I thought better to be safe than sorry. As it turned out I was right to suspect a problem, his eyes had changed from a 4 to a 5 in a matter of 6 months. In our consultation with the eye doctor early in the fall he mentioned that during growth spurts that this was common and we might have to replace lenses 2 or 3 times a year for the next couple of years. I guess this is another benefit of him being homeschooled right now, I can keep a closer eye on that type of thing, and now I KNOW what I am looking for.
We are working on Leah's application for the school we would like her to attend in the fall. I think we are close to finishing up the application packet. She is trying to work harder on getting her papers in on time. We have already decided that if she isn't able to get into this new program this year, we are going to switch her to more of a paper based program where the internet isn't such a distraction. Be praying for us as we go through this process, we are trying to make the best decision for Leah and her individual needs. God has never failed to lead us in making our parenting decisons and I expect that to continue. Although we butt heads at times(as most moms and daughters do), Leah is turning out to be a fine young lady of great intellegence and a heart of compassion. There are days I can hardly wait to see what God will do in her life!
Mark has been a busy beaver the last couple of weeks. He sang at church last week and is drumming this week. He has also been studying for a test next weekend. A gal at work gave him a computer to take a look at. It turns out that the hard-drive and the fan are about to croak but he was able to pull her pictures off which is what she was most concerned with. These little side jobs don't come along with any regularity but it does provide us with a little extra cash from time to time-always a good thing!
Better run and get bubby pulled out of the tub before he sprouts gills.
