We took a side trip in order to see the national
cemetery at Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania where President
Lincoln gave his famous address. It was really interesting and much bigger than I had anticipated. The vastness of the landscape and
peacefulness of the surroundings struck me as you think about the
bloodshed there by both sides. I wasn't able to put the pictures in any particular order (Janet do you know how to do that) so I will just post my comments with the
pictures.

Sign at the
cemetery.
Grave markers-this was also the cementary used for the people of Gettysburg for a period of time.
This was a barnyard in the middle of the
battlefield. They said that the train track in the foreground of the picture is the original track used at the time of the battle. I thought it was just beautiful!

There were monuments to each regimen that fought for both sides along the road.

Here is a monument to General Lee and his troops from Virginia.

A monument to commemorate the address. I have offered to pay Leah $10 for memorizing it since I think it is one of those cool things everyone should know.

I found this interesting, areas laid out for men from each state. I assume that there would have been no way to identify everyone.

A replica of a cannon used during the war.

This was the primary monument to commemorate the war there.
