We are going to try something new with Leah, we are going to give her a yearly clothing budget. We are going to cover extra things like winter coats, special occasion formal wear, and other clothing we need for special occasions. She is going to have to cover everything else with her budget.
The purpose of this is plan:
1) You have to PLAN and think about the future. What do I need not only today but tomorrow as well? Summer won't last forever and neither will winter. Leah will be making a lot of her own decisions on what to wear (we retain veto power) but we will be able to guide and advise when and if necessary.
2) To teach her that we all have limited resources and choices must be made.
3) If you want over what is in the budget, cool, you are responsible for making up the difference (babysitting, extra chores, a job of some sort).
Mark and I are really trying to be purposeful in teaching Leah about "real world" choices and skills. For the most part she has a really good head on her shoulders and I think she will be just fine. She is so surprised sometimes at the skills she already has for independent living that many of her peers have not yet even begun to think of.
Off topic....Leah gets her upper brackets on tomorrow.
