My friend Lynette, whose pictures you saw in the previous blog, has come up with a bit of profound wisdom I thought I would pass along. Lynette's oldest daughter is about to turn either 19 or 20, I can't remember which. She has been dating someone Lynette calls Mr. Right Now. Lynette's observation to her daughter was, "If you are hanging out with Mr. Right Now (who isn't someone you intend to stay with because he isn't good for you and doesn't share your values) then if Mr. Right walks by he may just keep on walking. Who knows if he will ever pass that way again?" It's an old saying but it still holds true, "You are known by the company you keep." I know a lot of my friends who are happily married have met Mr. or Miss Right because they were a friend of a friend...something to think about.
Another bit of wisdom that I thought I would pass along pertaining to what we post online. We have a friend who teaches some college (or college prep) classes. He has been telling his student's to be careful about what they post online (ie. My Space) because colleges and prospective employers are starting to check those things out to see what kind of person you are. I think of it like this, don't post anything you don't want your mom reading! You think this stuff is private but there are people who know how to hack into the system. Another example-Mark also had a friend at church who "Googled" a blind date and he decided NOT to go out with her based on what he found on her blog/My Space page. This gal missed out knowing a great guy (who knows, maybe a potential Mr. Right) because of the things she had posted online.
