We spent our morning watching a BBC production of Romeo and Juliet. Jordan chose this movie at the library yesterday and wanted to watch it all the way through today. Of course we had to have the movie sub-titled and he followed along in a big book we have of Shakespeare's plays. Why is it he would sit through Shakespeare and not any other movie I haven't the faintest idea. This is so typical of Jordan though, the more complicated a thing is, the more it interests him. He has no patience for the building blocks though that would allow him to more fully use a skill. (ie. He hates +/- but loves multiplication and square roots. He hates reading reading every word in a book and detests reading comprehension but loves Shakespeare.)
Speaking of Jordan, he has developed a kind of new self-awareness. He has been going around telling everyone, "I have autism." It is good that he is aware enough to realize that he is different. The thing that I think encourages me is that every story I have read about adults with autism who are fairly functional in the world is that they reached this self-awareness milestone in their early teens. If I can keep his mind engaged, maybe there is still yet hope for his future.
