Mark had the afternoon off today so we decided to go to the new Pixar movie Wall-E. We liked it but probably not as much as some of the other Pixar flicks. There wasn't a lot of dialogue. Jordan made an interesting comment, he thought the robots had autism. As we thought about this a bit we realized that a lot of the dialogue was that kind of electronic, computer speak (kind of like R2-D2 from Star Wars but with a few intelligible words). Most of it sounded like gibberish and I told Mark that in the past when Jordan makes noise like that I tell him that I need him to speak English if he wants me to understand him. It was just interesting that Jordan put it all together like that.
School Update:
Leah is trying to get the rest of her 8th grade stuff done so she can have a couple of weeks off before she starts high school. I want her to get a good start on the written part of driver's ed before school starts too. I have had some people ask me when Leah can get her permit...she has to finish 30 hours of course work with 80% proficiency in order to get her permit. I do have to give Leah a little pat on the back, my main goal for her this year was to learn a little organization. Although she has a long way to go, she has come so far in putting herself on a schedule and getting thing completed. She is also coming to the realization that getting things done and staying organized just takes a load of un-necessary stress off.
Jordan and I have been taking it a bit easier the last couple of weeks. Leah thinks our schedule is a bit unfair but we have our hours in and we don't really have anything that must be completed by X date. We already have our number of hours required by the state finished for the year. With Jordan's program, when we are finished with one book we just go on to the next. I shoot for approximately 80% proficiency before we go on to the next unit, a little frustrating at times for both Jordan and I but, I think it is for the best. I guess I am going to say that he is finished with 5th grade at the end of this month. Jordan's skills are so scattered it's hard to pin down a specific grade. Reading proficiency continues to hold him back in so many areas.
Better run and get the kitchen cleaned up. Have a great evening!
