Innaguration Day

Today is a special day....the inauguration of Barack Obama, the first African American to become President of the United States. Ok, the guy wasn't my choice for president but today he is MY President. It's important that we show our children the proper respect for the man and the office, weather we like his policies or not. Join me in praying that he will be a good leader and will govern our nation wisely. Pray for his health and his safety and for his family as well. (I wish they would stop making comparisons to Lincoln, they are freaking me out. Hello, that story didn't end so well.) Let's pray for his children his children, that will be left alone to grow up out of the glare of the spotlight.

I am glad that this day in American history has come. I, like many others, am looking forward to the day when we no longer need to have the discussion about being being the first black, or the first woman, or the first Hispanic, etc. All mankind is made in the image of God and it's past time we started ACTING that way. And yet, we do have differences in our convictions and world views. Is it possible to discuss those differences without being hateful and making it personal?

Parent's, help your child remember this day. Inauguration Day is important to the history of our nation regardless of who the president is. Do you grasp how amazing this peaceful transition of power every 4-8 years is? There was no bloody coup, there aren't riots in the streets. Today will pass with fanfare, speeches, parades, and dances. The day will pass with a whimper, not a bang. We live in a great country!

As for President Bush, I am praying that he will have a long and happy retirement. I honestly think history will be kinder to him. The measure of the man is over time and after the passion of the moment has faded. Do I think he was perfect, no, but I do think he is a good man who did his best to live by his convictions and to live a life of honor before God.

Have a great day!
